TOP ISSUES FOR STEPPARENTS

Parents and caregivers of teens/preteens voted for their TOP 3 parenting issues, from a field of 27. (See Poll) Of the 182 valid responses received, just 9 were from stepparents (8 stepmothers and 1 stepfather). While in the past we have had more returns by stepparents, the proportion of stepparents to biological parents responding is always small. [We would like to *increase* the number of stepparent returns--please let others know about this poll!] The bar chart shows that, of the 6 top vote-getters among the total sample of respondents, "bad attitude-lack of respect" is even more important to stepparents than to biological parents as a parenting issue in rearing teens and preteens. Although "lying" comes in 3rd for the total sample, stepparents put it 2nd as one of the 'top 3' issues in parenting this age group. "Drugs/Alcohol" is stepparents' 3rd issue, with "being a know-it-all" coming in 4th for stepparents, as for the total sample of respondents.
