site lets you read an intro to the book and correspond with the
authors: they will answer any questions about drugs/alcohol
sent in e-mail messages to them. This could be a very valuable
resource. This site considers the book a Parenting Adolescents Outstanding

Appears to be wholesome, on the up-and-up, offers info to the

Family Diversity Projects, Inc., is a
non-profit organization that devotes itself to educating people--students, parents,
teachers, religious leaders--about diversity. They try
to help eliminate discrimination and prejudice based on persons'
religion, race, gender, sexual orientation, or mental/physical
abilities. They offer several award-winning photo-text exhibits
that can travel--you can ask them to your school, church, library,
conference, or other venue. Some of the projects are: "Of
Many Colors: Portraits of Multiracial Families," "Love
Makes a Family: Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgendered People
and Their Families," "Nothing to Hide: Mental Illness

fastWEB calls itself the Internet's largest
free college scholarship search service. It claimed to be indexing 400,000 scholarship
sources on the day we accessed it (3/13/99). You set up a personal
mailbox, and they send you updated scholarship news. A real service,
and it's free, unlike some other web scholarship search engines.

Mega-Math
A site run Los Alamos Laboratories (hence
the "gov" connection), with colorful,
beautiful demonstrations/explanations of things like graphs,
knots, etc. Beautifully done and a lot of fun, but the bad news
is, no one is maintaining this site anymore, so you can't interact
with the people who run it, because they're not running it anymore.
"Sad but true," as the page states. Still, if your
teen likes (or hates) math, they could do worse than check
out this site.

Starbright
A web site for teens/pre-teens who have
serious, chronic illness, and their parents/caregivers.
Especially neat is that they offer videos
about being an ill teenager, made by the teenagers themselves.
Two videos, each 15 minutes, are said to be both " credible"
and "entertaining" in advising how to cope with illness,
doctors, hospitals, living life to the fullest even though ill.
The two videos are called, "Plastic Eggs or Something!?:Cracking
Hospital Life," and, "What Am I, Chopped Liver? "
They are free to seriously, chronically ill teens and their families.
There's also plenty else to do at the sight--lots of info. It's
a project chaired by Steven Spielberg and Norman Schwarzkopf.

about this approach to abstinence, including links to research
studies that indicate that participation in Rational Recovery
results in better stats, regarding numbers of participants who
maintained abstinence, than does AA. The web site details the
approach, and even says that you can stop drinking just by taking
in the info at the site. It takes on AA for keeping the wish
for alcohol "alive and well" by fending it off 'one
day at a time.' If you or someone you know drinks too much, you
definitely owe it to yourself to check out this site, especially
if you've tried AA already without lasting results.
