Teens and preteens
voted for their "top 3" issues with their parents,
choosing from a list of 26 to 28 possible issues, plus an "other"
category, which respondents could use as one of their three choices.
The Teen
and Parenting Issues Polls are
run continuously at this site and results are posted quarterly.
The following issues
were written in as "other" issues by teen and preteen
poll respondents during the polls run from March to May, June
to August, and from September to November 2000:
- my relationship with my boyfriend
and how much he means to me
- they [parents] want me to
be responsible but they still treat me like I'm a kid
- not letting me date
- they have no respect for my
privacy
- my parents make me feel like
I should be in trouble if I want to dress more in-crowd
- don't allow me to go to concerts
- boyfriend and going out on
dates with him
- they accept that I don't want
to be the same religion they are
- my brothers annoy me
- treats the youngest daughter
like an angel
- respect
- parents don't trust me alone
with my boyfriend and don't let me hang out with certain people
- blame everything on me
- no respect for my choice to
parent my son
- don't want me to date until
I graduate college
- that psychiatrists are too
old to be truly in touch with teens, and yet throw arbitrary
judgemental __ at me and my age group
- my beliefs and ethics

- I think they compare me to
others
- my eating disorder
- they do not understand that
I am part of an oppressed minority and suffer discrimination
because of my age (16).

that and just totally putting me on a guilt trip!!

- kicked me out
- my boyfriend

- not thinking I am mature enough
because I am 16 but I am a junior in high school
